Trump’s FY 2021 Budget proposes deep cuts for programs benefiting working families

LAS VEGAS, NV – Today, President Donald Trump submitted his FY 2021 Budget Proposal to Congress. While unlikely to become law as written, the proposed cuts to Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, SNAP, and more included in this budget pose a threat to the working families who benefit from these programs.

Maria-Teresa Liebermann, Deputy Director of Battle Born Progress, said:

“Trump’s latest inhumane budget proposal contains trillions of dollars in cuts to essential safety net programs, healthcare programs, and programs designed to benefit people with disabilities, children, seniors, and working families. A budget is a reflection of what an administration values. Based on this latest proposal, it’s once again crystal clear that Trump only values the wealthy and corporations at the expense of the most economically vulnerable in our society. Two years since the Trump Tax Scam drastically shifted the tax burden from the wealthy to working families, we’ve seen this President shred a bipartisan budget agreement simply to further satisfy the greed of those at the top.

Furthermore, Trump proposes to spend $7.9 trillion on defense and $5.4 trillion on non-defense programs over the next decade. It’s telling that healthcare, food, housing, and education are deprioritized in favor of building up the already well-funded military in response to international conflict that Trump has helped to escalate. We will be working with Nevada’s congressional delegation to oppose these cuts to programs that are vital to working Nevadans and supporting their efforts to craft a budget that will protect Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security, and SNAP. And alongside state legislators, we will do what we can here at home to ensure people’s healthcare is accessible and affordable.”
