ELECTION DAY IS NOT RESULTS DAY

NEVADA – Election day isn’t results day – we have known that since this cycle started. Nevadans have multiple options to vote, like mail-in voting, it will take longer to count every single vote and there is no one that should be attempting to determine the results of this election other than the release of official results. The only person who can certify an election and name a winner is an election official. Democracy takes time and the wait is worth it. We need to let our election officials do their job. It’s natural to feel on edge right now, especially given the importance of this election. But one of our most important rights is the right to vote, and election officials have a duty to ensure that every eligible vote is counted.

Battle Born Progress Executive Director, Annette Magnus, stated:

“It’s not unexpected that the counting of every vote is going to take time. In an election where voters turned out across the state using vote by mail, in-person voting, and ballot drop-off, we know that it will take time to ensure every vote is counted. We urge election officials in every county across Nevada to work diligently to ensure no one’s voice goes unheard. We also demand that our county election officials do everything they can to ensure that every vote is counted and urge all Nevadans, especially elected officials, candidates, and members of the media to respect the process. Any attempt to question the process, declare victory prematurely, stop counting votes or not honor the final results would be a gravely serious affront to our democracy. Nevadans need to be patient and allow our election process to work the way it always does in Nevada. Counting every vote and having a transparent voting process is the Nevada way.”
