Nevada Gun Safety Advocates Present Bill to Ban Ghost Guns Parallel to Congressional Hearing

CARSON CITY, NV – During Tuesday’s meeting of the Nevada Senate Committee of the Judiciary, Assemblywoman Sandra Jauregui will present a bill, AB286. The bill prohibits the possession, sale and transfer of unfinished and unserialized firearm components (a.k.a. “ghost guns”).

Jauregui, a 1 October survivor, will be joined in her presentation by gun safety advocate organizations, including Annette Magnus, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress, who will provide supporting testimony. Spokespersons for Battle Born Progress will be available to provide additional comment to press in either English or Spanish before, and following, the hearing.

Earlier on Tuesday morning, at 7:00AM PST, the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on the Constitution, led by Senator Richard Blumenthal, will hold a hearing on the danger of ghost guns, which will air here. The Congressional hearing comes after President Joe Biden urged Congress to address the issue in April 2021. The hearing will inform federal policy action towards ghost guns, just as the Justice Department this week unveiled a proposed rule increasing regulation on these devices. Nevada’s efforts on AB286 once again show the state’s proactive leadership on the issue of gun safety for the nation to model.
