LAS VEGAS, NV–  Battle Born Progress’ 7th Annual Progressive Summit, held virtually on Saturday and Sunday, January 30th and 31st, will feature Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, as a keynote speaker for the event. Annette Magnus, Executive Director of Battle Born Progress said:

“We’re overjoyed to have Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer join us virtually in Nevada for our Progressive Summit this year. Governor Whitmer has been one of the most prolific emergent leaders since the COVID-19 pandemic began. Like our Governor, Steve Sisolak, she has followed the science and worked with experts to make tough decisions that have ultimately saved lives and protected as many livelihoods as possible during this crisis. She has also stood up unapologetically to our disgraced outgoing president and bravely stood strong amidst constant sexist, bad-faith, and hyper-partisan attacks on her leadership. For this, she is a role model for women in politics across the country and we feel incredibly privileged to have her drop by our Progressive Summit to share some of that inspiration with Nevada activists. We look forward to her remarks and what her leadership brings in years to come.”

Governor of Michigan, Gretchen Whitmer, released the following statement:

“I want to thank Battle Born Progress for inviting me to be a keynote speaker for their 7th Progressive Summit. As we usher in an era of new leadership at the federal level, it’s so important to remember that we are by no means out of the woods on handling this pandemic. It’s going to take a nationwide strategy to get our country through this, to vaccinate everyone, and to recover economically. Having strong allies not only in Washington D.C., but in states like Nevada, will be crucial to getting back on track. We must all work together, and in our respective states, to protect and expand access to health care, take bold action on climate change, and bring back good-paying union jobs as we recover.”

About the Progressive Summit:

For seven years, the Progressive Summit has served as an educational hub for activists, community leaders, and elected officials to network throughout two days of workshops, training, breakout sessions, and keynote speeches to mobilize for creating change in the coming year. This year, the Summit will be held on Saturday and Sunday, January 30-31st, 2021, beginning at 9:00AM both days.

Following the 2020 general election, and in anticipation of the upcoming 81st Session of the Nevada Legislature, progressives in Nevada are eager to get to work putting the country back on track to end the pandemic, while protecting vulnerable communities and rebuilding an economy that puts workers and their families first before big corporations. Because the Summit will be a virtual event, Nevadans from across the state are invited to participate in this year’s program. A full roster and schedule of speakers and sessions is TBA.

Attendee tickets for the 2021 Progressive Summit are $15 for both days, or $5 to attend a single session. The $15 multi-pass includes a BBP Survival Kit of fun goodies to be mailed to purchasers. The link to purchase tickets is: bit.ly/ps21reg. Scholarships to the event are also available upon request at (702) 900-3665.

Spokespeople in Spanish or English are available for individual interviews.
