NEVADA – Battle Born Progress’ weekly webshow, Out in Front with Annette, aired on Thursday evening with an episode dedicated to Nevada Public Lands Week, and the anticipated Nevada Public Lands Day celebrations this coming Saturday. A group of experts, including Tony Wasley, Director of Nevada Department of Wildlife, Russell Kuhlman, the Executive Director of Nevada Wildlife Federation, and Bertha Gutierrez, Associate Program Director for the Conservation Lands Foundation, spoke with host, Annette Magnus, about a variety of topics related to Nevada’s approach to wildlife habitat and migration corridor protection.

Recently, Governor Sisolak issued an Executive Order calling for a multi-agency plan for wildlife habitat protection and restoration, including wildlife corridors. The discussion focused on the benefits of this executive action and what further steps the state may take in coming months to ensure habitats, migratory corridors, wildlife, and plant species are adequately protected.

Saturday, September 25th, marks the 5th Nevada Public Lands Day. Conservation groups will gather at Mountain’s Edge Regional Park for a park clean-up at 9:00AM, a press conference with state and environmental leaders at 11:00AM, and a virtual celebration event at 2:00PM. All event details can be found on NevadaPublicLandsDay.com

Annette Magnus, Executive Director for Battle Born Progress, said, “We thank our panelists for joining us tonight as part of our Public Lands Week celebrations to educate the public on real steps the state is taking to protect Nevada’s unique and diverse wildlife species. The Governor’s Executive Order is already assisting the relevant wildlife departments with researching, maintaining, and preserving migratory corridors within our state. Our roads, highways, and overall human expansion into areas that are normally habitats for wildlife must be balanced with their need to have safe migratory corridors. Nevadans overwhelmingly support protecting wildlife corridors and this Order has moved the state much closer to our shared goal of providing safe migratory areas for our natural wildlife. We’re looking ahead to celebrating Nevada’s public lands, and the wildlife who call them home, this Saturday on the 5th annual Nevada Public Lands Day. ”

Tony Wasley, Director of Nevada Department of Wildlife, said, “We applaud the Governor and the many conservation partners supporting the Executive Order, as it will build upon past actions and plans to conserve, restore, and rehabilitate our habitats through a collaborative evaluation of existing threats, opportunities, and priorities in order to maximize our collective efforts to better deliver effective on-the-ground conservation.”

Russell Kuhlman, Executive Director of Nevada Wildlife Federation, said, “This Executive Order takes steps to ensure that Nevada’s outdoor landscapes do not become degraded, or completely lost, due to its many threats. It offers a plan to safeguard our sagebrush ecosystem and wildlife corridors so that current and future generations can enjoy the same benefits from Nevada’s landscape and wildlife as I have come to appreciate it and rely on.”

Bertha Gutierrez, Associate Program Director for the Conservation Lands Foundation, said, “At Conservation Lands Foundation we channel the local passion to conserve the public lands we love and need. We want places rich in biodiversity, history, cultural values, and important for wildlife corridors to be permanently protected for future generations. Because when we protect the land, we protect our future.”
